A lot of people don’t enjoy shopping for a variety of different reasons and, despite my love of vetements I would without doubt count myself among that lot. Yes, I love styling clothes but do I love the process of acquiring them? That’d be a ‘Hell.No.!’

Unfortunately shopping is an occasional necessary evil for those of us who don’t have a preference for the nudist lifestyle or the budget for a personal shopper so, to make the process just that liiiiiiiittle bit easier for you I have compiled a list of tips from my many year’s experience pounding Dublin city’s pavements in search of new threads.

1) If you usually style your hair & wear make up, make sure to put an effort in before you head out on a day of shopping.

This may be a weird one but sadly, it does make a difference. Ain’t nothing gonna look right if your hair is flat & your ‘just out of bed’ game is strong. Those harsh changing room lights are unforgiving enough without adding avoidable anguish.

2) Wear loose, easy to remove clothing & footwear.

How many times have you ended up in a changing room wearing a jumpsuit, bodysuit, lace-up boots and a complicated belt? Well, all 4 would be seriously unfortunate but, we all know the stress of wanting to try something on but having to battle 10 minutes with your outfit to do so.

If you’re planning a day of shopping, plan an outfit you can whip on & off… your sanity will thank you for it.

3) Go alone!

This is somewhat of a controversial suggestions but I stand by it unequivocally for the following reasons;

Having someone wait on you creates stress & guilt, waiting on someone else is equally as painful (the day will already be bloody long enough!) and lastly, I firmly believe that you are more likely to make regretful purchases when shopping with a friend.

Not many people want to say you look bad so often falsely admire an outfit to avoid upsetting you… which leads to you thinking the outfit is better than it is… which leads to you not wanting to insult your friend by going against their opinion… which leads to you buying something you’ll doubt as soon as you get home… and then come to hate & never wear…. phew!!

4) Wear neutral underwear.

Nude bras, as sexy as they ain’t are essential for a day of shopping, so too it a well fitted thong. It’s almost impossible to see how an evenings dress sits when you’re strapped in with a sports bra under it, the same can be said with trying to decide on a body con dress over baggy knickers.

The whole point in trying things on is to see how the truly fit so don’t hinder the opportunity with complicated undies.

5) Bring a cotton shopper.

You know those cotton shopping bags you acquire from god-knows-where? Grab the largest one you have & throw it into your handbag before you leave the house.

Putting your shopping bags into it as you go as opposed to trying to snake your hands between a variety of bags of all shapes & sizes will make the shopping experience a whole lot more pleasant. Far more practical & means you don’t need to tackle a mass of handles every time you need to put them down for a sec.
