My top picks of events happening in Dublin this week:

Monday

Event- Test Copy (more dates)

Location- Viking Theatre at The Sheds, The Sheds, Connollys, Vernon Ave Clontarf, Dublin

Description- Meet Louise Fennessy, just one of 89 Transition year girls and follow her through the corridors and carry-on of St. Catherine’s Convent, Slievemore, Co. Tipperary. After gaining the attention of an unlikely crowd, Louise gets carried away in a new world of territory, respect and recognition.

But she messes it up and they quickly spit her back out to the nobody she was before. Now, she will stop at nothing to get that notice back. Test Copy is a new black comedy, which takes a fresh look into the world of peer pressure environments, the highs and lows of female sexuality in bloom and the extremes young people will go to for attention.

Event- 90s Throwback Hip Hop Workshop

Location- Dance Theatre of Ireland, Centre for Dance, Bloomfields Centre, Lower Georges St., Dun Laoghaire

Description- Old Skool Fresh Prince moves are back! It’s all the rage and for good reason. Learn the fundamentals of Hip Hop, to great music from the very inspiring Rachel Sheil, who carries an Associate Diploma in Performing Arts to teach Breaking, Locking and Old School Hip-Hop.

Tuesday

Event- Fermentation for Social and Political Change Workshop with Darren Ollerton

Location- The Hopsack, Swan Shopping Centre

Description- Food activist, blogger and bodyworker Darren Ollerton runs a local food and health education project in Brighton called AlchemyFlow. In this engaging talk he brings together current research and insights into food, health and healing to show how the simple act of fermenting in the home kitchen can not only benefit ourselves personally but reverberate into wider social, political and environmental realms.

Afterwards, he’ll run an interactive demonstration teaching traditional ferments like sauerkraut and kimchi.

All proceeds go to Focus Ireland. 🙂

Event- Happy city – healthy city. Mental health provision at a local level

Location- 3 Manor Street, Stoneybatter

Description- WE’VE BEEN TALKING….

…but maybe we need to talk more? Or perhaps we should go for a walk, learn what it is primary care centres actually do or empower our children to ask for help. Let’s talk mental health. How we access it, how we maintain it and how our local area can support us all in living a happy, healthy and content life in the heart of Dublin city.

Event- Shangela is Shook – New one woman show

Location- Tivoli Theatre, 138 Francis Street

Description- Arriving directly from LA in a box (naturally)… don’t miss All Stars 3 diva Shangela return to Dublin just weeks after the finale. Friday

Event- Annual Messiah on the Street

Location- Fishamble Street, Dublin 2

Description- All are welcome to this on-street performance. Up to 120 singers from Our Lady’s Choral Society will join The Dublin Handelian Orchestra for a free performance of Handel’s Messiah.

Join us there for an afternoon event; conducted by Proinnsías Ó Duinn; of choir, solo and orchestra performing choruses from Handel’s Messiah. Wrap up warm!

Event- Alison Spittle and friends- comedy night for repeal

Location- Hangar, Andrew’s Lane, Dublin 2

Description- Join some of Ireland’s best comedians, including the award-winning star of Nowhere Fast, Alison Spittle, for a fundraising night to support Together for Yes and help repeal the 8th amendment.

Hosted by Sharon Mannion, the all-star line up includes Aoife Dooley, Emma Doran, Julie Jay, Ruth Hunter, Breda Larkin, Conor O’Toole and Alison Spittle. All proceeds go to Together for Yes.

Saturday

Event- Fishamble: Writing Workshop

Location- The Civic Theatre, Town Centre, Tallaght

Description- Setting Sail: An Introduction to Playwriting

Enjoy a creative and practical day developing your ideas for the theatre.  Based on Fishamble’s work, participants will be lead through stimulating writing exercises and discussion to gain confidence in their work. Max 12 Participants.

Cost- €30 or FREE with the purchase of any 2 tickets across the Voyage Festival

Event- Pet Lovers Meetup

Location- Marlay Park, Dublin- Meet at Marlay Park House

Description- Pet Sitters Ireland is hosting a free meet up at Marley Park on the 14th April for Pet Lovers in the local and surrounding area.

The meet up is a fun event to meet other dog and cat owners in the area, ask questions about your pets and seek advice on new pet ownership. If you have a Puppy then feel free to bring them along as we will have a team member there to chat about Puppy Socialisation.

We will also have some free goodies on the day and we welcome pet owners of all types of pets.

If you intend to come please register so we have an idea of numbers.

Children’s Event- Drama Academy Showcase 2018

Location- Pavilion’s Theatre

Description- The Drama Academy returns to the Pavilion for another packed Showcase including extracts from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Gangsta Granny, Aladdin and Crazy for you.

Sunday

Event- Whiskey and brunch experience at the Irish Whiskey Museum

Location- 119 Grafton Street, Dublin 2

Description- A 1 hour and 15 minute experience exploring the history of whiskey and food throughout the eras  in Ireland.  This tour includes a tasting of 3 Irish whiskeys followed by a hearty Brunch in our Cafe Bar.

Children’s Event- Family Activity: Entitled To Title – The Throne Room Paintings

Location- Dublin Castle, Dublin 2

Description- Children and adults alike will be invited to look at Gaetano Gandolfi’s set of Throne Room paintings, ‘read’ and engage with them in order to, eventually, title them! Join Antonella Guarracino for this event, which is part of our Making Majesty programme.

Suitable for families with children from 6 years.
