My 4 outfits for the Autumn Weather

Its that time of year in Ireland again when we get to wrap up a bit more & drag the jumpers & coats out (…if you were lucky enough to have gone without them for the summer!). I don’t know about you but, I’m a maaahusive fan of layering, it creates such an interesting silhouette and, is more flattering to the figure…as long as you avoid bulky pieces of course!

Although it’s a styling time favored by many, the transitional weeks can be really hard to dress for… we can quite literally have every season in 1 day here in Ireland and, no matter what you seem to leave the house in you’ll inevitably be too hot/too cold/both.

Soooo, in an attempt to lull your styling woes, I’ve put together 4 different looks for this tricky weather, showcasing a variety of ways in which you can keep out the chill without resorting to full-blown eskimo attire-

  • Consider a cape- Capes are very versatile pieces as, they can be worn alone in milder weather or, layered on top of a jacket for extra warmth & a pop of colour… I love to layer them over jumpers for a cosy autumn look or, wear them belted for a more flattering finish. Add a fedora for a boho look that’s perfect for winter.

Tip: Opt for a thick belt as opposed to thinner ones, it gives a more flattering finish & feels a lot more comfortable against the body.

  • Rock bare legs- Naked stems are fully acceptable in the transitional weeks as far as I’m concerned if you work this look by adding plenty of layering & a woolly hat on top. The bulkiness of the jacket over jumper will be softened by a fitted skirt & bare legs making for a mild winter look to suit every occasion.

Tip: I’m talking more ‘bare looking’ than, like, actually bare here. Nude tights are a great way to achieve this look while keeping the harsh chill off your legs. M&S bare invisibles are by far the best high street option.

  •  Rework summer pieces- By reworking your lighter summer pieces into your autumn wardrobe, you’ll double your options in a fun & creative way. By adding a fur collar to a light scarf I was able to create a kind of winter kimono. A Winomo? No?

Ahhhnyway, plenty of your light summer pieces can be used as layering pieces in your winter wardrobe to add a pop of colour & texture. Another favorite of mine is layering a printed kimono between a black outfit & lather jacket… simple, understated, chic.

Tip: Charity shops are the perfect place to find an array of printed scarves, adding a great pop of colour & print to your overall look for less than the price of a coffee.

  • Layer it up!!- The only way to be sure you’ll avoid the too hot/too cold predicament is by layering several light pieces together. I love to wear a shirt under a floaty jumper to add structure but, it also doubles as a way to be prepared for our notoriously unpredictable weather.

Layer a t-shirt under the shirt again & add a coat on top if the day starts off chilly- Not only will you look chic, the variety of options will have you ready come rain hail or shine.

Tip: If you’re going for the oversized jumper look make sure to opt for fitted bottoms…. unless you’re going for a look that’s more rapper than wrapped up.
