Event- Where We Live: MADE IN DUBLIN (March 15th)

Location- The Complex, 15 Little Green St, Smithfield, Dublin 7

Description- Made In Dublin is an installation of sound and vision that plays out a series of infinitely unfolding events around the movement of people caught up in time and place. And that place is Dublin.

The work builds on Doyle’s Dublin photography, with designs by Sweeney and sound by Donohoe, It has no beginning or end, playing itself continuously throughout, with each scene unique to the moment, never to be seen or heard again.

Made In Dublin is a panorama of the city: its fabric, populations and light — each shaping and wearing away at the autonomy of the other. Dublin appears in a continuous state of passing through, embroiled in some kind of choreography, with individual journeys compacting repetitively into the same streets. Made In Dublin reveals a city whose concrete is as plastic as the movement of its inhabitants.

Event- Port Walks (March 15th)

Location- Dublin Port, Dublin 1

Description-  This podcast walking tour connects local Dublin Port recreational walkers with Seafarers who come into Dublin Port each day.  The Great South Wall at the entrance to Dublin Port is a jetty extending 2km into Dublin Bay. Ships entering Dublin Port pass very closely by the wall. Walkers there can feel the vibrations of the ships as they move past, but although the distance is small, the gap appears unbridgeable.

This unique series of audio podcasts is engaging and enlightening in equal measure and provides a fascinating insight into how containers transformed and shaped not only shipping and seafaring but also global trade, production and consumption, ships as homes away from homes for seafarers who try to stay close to family and loved ones while away at sea and the many factors shaping the shipping industry now and how they point towards autonomous ships as the next innovation.
